Finding the right rug for your home can be surprisingly tricky. Between style, size, price, and maintenance, there’s a lot to consider. Over the past year, I’ve personally tried rugs from both RugsUSA.com and Ruggable—two of the most popular online rug brands. They offer very different experiences, so in this post, I’m breaking down exactly how they compare, based on what I’ve used, cleaned, and lived with.

Key Differentiating Factors

Style & Variety

Rugs USA wins when it comes to sheer variety. I found everything from traditional plush rugs to round shag styles in rich gold tones and clean white neutrals. Whether you want a modern accent, a statement piece, or something cozy and plush, the options feel endless.

Ruggable, on the other hand, has a curated, print-forward aesthetic. Their rugs are more about sleek function and seasonal flexibility. The covers come in various prints (including holiday designs), and you can swap them out without needing to buy a new base pad. But if you’re after thick, fluffy rugs or unusual textures, Ruggable might feel limited.

Construction & Feel

Rugs USA rugs feel traditional—thick, plush, and soft underfoot. The shag textures I tried were surprisingly luxe for the price. These rugs come in one piece and require the usual care: vacuuming, occasional spot cleaning, and flattening out corners after shipping.

Ruggable rugs, in contrast, come in two pieces: a non-slip base pad and a thinner topper that attaches with Velcro-like grip. The topper has a fabric-like feel—mine felt like velour—and it’s much thinner than traditional rugs. It’s designed for easy removal and cleaning, not maximum cushion.

Cleaning & Maintenance

This is where Ruggable really shines. I’ve thrown mine in the washing machine monthly, especially the runners in my kitchen and hallway. They’re easy to shake out, spot-clean, and wash. I use mild detergent and cold water, then hang them to dry. No bleach, no heat, and they hold up beautifully—even after heavy traffic, kids, muddy shoes, and spills.

Rugs USA rugs require more traditional care. You’ll need to vacuum and spot-clean. One of my white rugs was a bit of a risk with a young child in the house, but so far, it’s held up well. Just know you can’t toss them in the washing machine, and you may want to invest in a rug pad to add comfort and prevent slipping on hard floors.

Size & Practicality

If you’re buying a large area rug, I’d choose Rugs USA every time. Their 6×6 and 6×9 rugs are plush, stylish, and affordable. Meanwhile, Ruggable rugs become harder to manage at bigger sizes. I struggled to get a 6×9 rug into my standard washing machine—it barely fit. I’d never go larger than that.

That’s why Ruggable’s runners are the real stars. They’re lightweight, machine-washable, and ideal for high-traffic areas like hallways and kitchens.

Price & Value

Rugs USA often has deep sales. I snagged a gorgeous gold shag rug for under $90. Their pricing feels accessible, and you get a lot of visual impact for your money.

Ruggable rugs are pricier up front, especially when you factor in both the base pad and topper. But if you care about longevity and convenience, especially with pets and kids, the washable design adds real value. I’ve had mine for over a year, and they still look fresh.

Choose Ruggable If…

  • You Have Pets or Young Kids: Ruggable is a game-changer for busy homes. If your dog tracks in mud or your toddler spills juice weekly, the washable rug system is worth it. Just peel off the rug cover, toss it in the washing machine, and you’re good to go.
  • You Live in a High-Traffic Area: Entryways, hallways, kitchens—anywhere with constant foot traffic is where Ruggable shines. Its low-pile design is easy to clean and won’t trap dirt or allergens like a thicker rug would.
  • You Want Low-Maintenance Living: No more wrestling with rug shampooers or scheduling professional cleanings. Ruggable offers peace of mind. It’s practical, simple, and stress-free—perfect for people who value convenience above all.
  • You Prefer Modern, Graphic Prints: While Ruggable’s selection is expanding, it leans modern: think geometric patterns, boho styles, and contemporary collaborations. And since the rug covers are lightweight, you can switch them out seasonally or whenever you feel like a change.

Choose Rugs USA If…

  • You Love Plush, Textured Rugs: Want that luxurious, sink-your-toes-in feel? Rugs USA offers high-pile options, wool blends, shags, jute, and hand-tufted pieces that feel more traditional and substantial underfoot.
  • You Crave Variety in Style and Material: Rugs USA has thousands of options—classic Orientals, bold abstracts, minimalist neutrals, and everything in between. From cotton flatweaves to chunky natural fiber rugs, you’ll find far more material and construction choices here than with Ruggable.
  • You’re Budgeting (or Buying Big): Need an affordable 8×10 for the living room? Rugs USA has plenty under $200, especially during sales. But they also carry high-end, investment-worthy rugs if you’re looking for a centerpiece that’ll last.
  • You Don’t Mind Traditional Cleaning: If you’re okay with vacuuming and an occasional spot clean—or if your rug won’t be in a mess-prone area—Rugs USA gives you better value and a richer feel for the price. Just be prepared for some extra care if you go with natural fibers or light colors.
